Paavo Järvi, der ehemalige Chefdirigent und heutige »Conductor Laureate« des hr-Sinfonieorchesters, kommt nach Frankfurt mit Werken zweier großer Sinfoniker, für deren Interpretationen er höchstes Lob erhielt. »Sein Sibelius hat Gefühl, er ist leidenschaftlich, aber nie monumental«, schrieb etwa das Magazin Rondo über Järvis Sibelius-Sinfonie-Einspielungen. Und die Frankfurter Rundschau erlebte seine Beethoven-Aufnahmen als »extrem frisch musiziert, da passt alles.« Gerade die 8. Sinfonie ist dabei eine ideale Järvi-Sinfonie, lebt sie doch von rhythmischer Leichtigkeit, Agilität und Eleganz. »Das assoziiert man mit Mozart, aber man ist nicht trainiert, das auch bei Beethoven zu sehen«, so Järvi nach seiner intensiven Beschäftigung mit Beethoven. »Und er kann eine große emotionale Wärme haben. Das war mir vorher nicht so klar – der schwere, dunkle Klang schon, aber nicht die Wärme, die einen so anzieht, dass man gerne näher rangehen würde.« Neugierig macht auch das Werk des Komponisten und Lyrikers Jüri Reinvere: »Und müde vom Glück, fingen sie an zu tanzen« heißt das Orchesterstück des in Estland geborenen und in Frankfurt lebenden Reinvere, das sein Landsmann Paavo Järvi 2018 uraufgeführt hat. »Generell mag ich es, wenn der Titel eine zusätzliche, eigenständige Aussage trifft«, sagt er. »Was ich nicht möchte: dass das Publikum in einer Komposition etwas sucht, was der Titel ankündigt, und es dann nicht findet. Das wäre nur frustrierend.«

Paavo Järvi, the former Music Director and current »Conductor Laureate« of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, comes to Frankfurt with works by two great symphonists for whose interpretations he has already received the highest praise. »His Sibelius has feeling, he is passionate, but never monumental,« wrote Rondo magazine about Järvi's Sibelius symphony recordings. And the Frankfurter Rundschau described his Beethoven recordings as »extremely freshly played, everything fits. The 8th Symphony in particular is an ideal Järvi symphony, as it lives from rhythmic lightness, agility and elegance. »You associate that with Mozart, but you are not trained to see that in Beethoven as well,« said Järvi after his intensive study of Beethoven. »And he can have a great emotional warmth. I didn't realise that before – the heavy, dark sound does, but not the warmth that draws you in so much that you'd like to get closer.« The work of composer and lyricist Jüri Reinvere also arouses curiosity: »And tired of happiness, they began to dance« is the name of the orchestral piece by Reinvere, who was born in Estonia and lives in Frankfurt, and which was premiered by his compatriot Paavo Järvi in 2018. »Generally, I like it when the title makes an additional, independent statement,« he says. »What I don't want: for the audience to look for something in a composition that the title announces and then not find it. That would only be frustrating.«
